Very few people write checks issued from their bank to pay bills or purchase items at a store. While some prefer to pay in cash, more and more of us use credit cards for purchases.

We human beings are designed and created by God in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). And what a wonderful design we have been given. Think of all the biological and chemical processes that work in near perfect synchronization, not to mention the engineering of our bone and muscle structure.

Often we hear our civic leaders talk about “the greater good.” Typically, they mean service to our country and our fellow citizens. With the recent government shutdown thousands of government workers have been furloughed without pay but congressional leaders continue to receive a salary.

When was the last time someone slapped you or hit you in the face? Maybe it was a parent when you talked back to them or used foul language. Maybe it was on the playground as a little kid or drunk at a bar in college. Maybe it never happened. We should be so fortunate.

Where do miners go for coal and diamonds? Where does a driller go for oil? Where do steel companies go for iron ore? Where does Jesus tell Simon Peter to catch fish? The answer is deep. Coal, diamonds, oil, iron ore and all sorts of precious minerals are found deep in the earth.

The Gopher football team won yesterday. They’re 3-0 now but likely, when they start the Big 10 schedule, they will start losing again. The Vikings lost last week. The Twins lost last night and are on their way to another solid losing season.

How many people do we know that are discouraged, downtrodden and without hope, even if it only be temporarily? It seems that every week we hear of another tragedy where someone has given up hope and then taken committed suicide their own life and maybe some other person or persons with them.
