The New Deal domestic agenda of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the 1940s was a government response to the effects of the Great Depression in the 1930s. In the late 1960s President Lyndon Johnson launched his own program called the Great Society. Its main goal was to eliminate poverty and racial injustice.
